The Movie-verse
The shop's west section is a soundproofed
glass room. As you enter, you see it contains a private movie viewing
area. X-Men fans are sitting in comfy chairs along the walls, each equipped
with a high-tech headset and viewing screen. You recognize various scenes
from the popular X-Men films playing on some of the screens as you look around,
but a few
seem to be viewing other films, some you haven't seen. A couple of people
seem to just be listening to something with no visual screen as you head toward
an open seat of your own.
Shelves in the center of the room contain CDs
and movies! Get your own copy of the popular
X-Movies or their soundtracks!
There are also episodes of cartoon series and some
other videos that look fun to check out.
Let
us know if there's something you'd like to see here. If you like the X-Men,
we hope you'll enjoy this corner of the SC bookstore!
Clicking any link will let you see more info on the book and give you the option to get a copy of your own if you like what you see. Remember that every book (or CD, video, etc.) you buy helps Southern Comfort!

X-Men: The Movie (2000)
Most visitors to the Southern Comfort Bookstore are very familiar with this movie, but whether you're a new X-Men fan, a veteran X-fan or not a comics fan at all, you'll love this hugely popular comic book transition to the big screen by Bryan Singer. Available in VHS or DVD versions, it's loaded with creativity, cool effects, and characters complex enough to lift it above any run-of-the-mill action film. Singer sets the stage admirably for the sequels that could turn X-Men into the strongest comic-book franchise since Batman. The DVD version comes with an interactive console that lets you watch the movie with or without several scenes never viewed in the theatres or to just watch the outtakes themselves on their own. You also get a behind the scenes interview and more goodies.

Free Enterprise (1999)
This modest but likeable movie (VHS and DVD) is driven by a sincere love of the screenwriters' childhood kitsch, with Star Trek dominant above all--although Logan's Run, the X-Men, Planet of the Apes, and dozens of other science fiction touchstones of the 1970s have been worked in as well. There is even a specific reference to Wolverine and Rogue! A fun addition to any sci-fi fan's collection. |
